2016 Charlotte Harbor Leukemia Cup

Saturday, March 12th the Punta Gorda Isles Yacht club hosted the 2016 Charlotte Harbor one design Leukemia Cup. Racing began with 10 2.4mrs on the line in a SW breeze near 13kts. The wind moderated to 6 -10 kts for the final races. Reading the big shifts correctly was a must for success as always.  Race Committee was able to get 4 races in, with Dennis Peck and Charlie Rosenfield tied with 11 points each. Charlie won the tiebreaker for first, leaving third place for Tony Pocklington with 13 points. This fun event was a nice way to cap our Spring 2.4mr clinic. Thanks to the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club for allowing our class to utilize their facilities.

The Port Charlotte Yacht Club hosted the 2015 2.4mr US Nationals to end the year of 2015.

After a day of rest and repair from the US 2.4mr Midwinters, the US 2.4mr National Regatta was ready to begin. Winds again from the east-northeast set in as competitors headed out to starting area but by the time the racing was ready to start it had shifted slightly more east to almost 85 degrees. Nice course set by committee and racing was on its way. Wind was in the more moderate level with competitors having to monitor shifting winds back and forth. Nice regatta with 4 Canadian and 7 US boats competing. A few had to drop out on the last day, but overall the fleet continued the tight racing from the previous Midwinters Regatta.

This regatta saw Charles Rosenfield, USA 142, find his groove and take first place with 7 points accumulated in the regatta. Second was taken by Tony Pocklington,  USA 3. This was almost a complete reversal of points between these two from the previous regatta. Third in the regatta was Peter Wood with 18 points. Third US boat, and fourth overall was Kevin Holmberg, USA 160 with 26 pts. Click here 2015 US Nationals results for the results of the regatta.

Thanks to the Charlotte Harbor Yacht club and all of the support staff that helped make this another fantastic 2.4mr event.

Charlotte Harbor

Port Charlotte, Florida

The US 2.4mr Class happy to be at the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club once again. Getting the boats down from St. Pete regatta just a few days earlier made the usual hustle bustle that happens each year here just seem part of the norm. Boats arrive on Monday and by Tuesday things were ready for the start of the regatta.

Charlotte Harbor day one saw a stiff breeze from the northeast. With the starting area set just west of marker three in the clearest air to be found for the race, competitors sailed a fast downwind leg to the start. The wind was up and so were the seas which made for a challenging course to test the competitor’s willingness to receive some spray of Charlotte Harbor.

Day two of regatta saw the wind drop off some to test the competitors skills in lighter breeze. Tony Pocklington, USA 3, showed how much his time spent in the boat this year paid off with accumulating 7 points to take first place in the regatta. Second was Charlie Rosenfield, USA 142, with 15 points. Peter Wood, Can 14, took the third spot. 4 Canadian, and 8 US boats competed in the regatta.  Click here 2015 2.4mr Midwinter results to see the full results.

There was fun to be had by all in the regatta. A big thank you again for crew put together to run the Mid-Winters for the 2.4mr Class.
