The 10th annual Charlotte Harbor Regatta took place Feb. 1-3, 2019. Regatta center was based at the Charlotte County Beach complex, and classes included the 2.4mR, Harbor 20, F18, and Hobie 16. The 8 boat 2.4mr fleet had 2 days of racing, Feb 2-3, sharing circle 1 on Saturday with the Harbor 20 fleet. Saturdays light conditions challenged the race committee, but after a delay they were able to get 4 races off in an allegedly 5kt breeze. Dee Smith won all 4 races of the day. Day 2 opened with another delay, this time due to fog that eventually cleared. 2 races were held in better conditions, 5-8kts from the west with flat water. Dee Smith again took both races, with Peter Eager posting a 3,2 to move up from third place overall to finish second for the regatta, Tony Pocklington finished third. For the full results click here

Port Charlotte, Fla. (January 29, 2019) – Sixteen competitors took to the waters of Charlotte Harbor over the weekend of January 25-27 for the 2019 Edge Sailing Midwinters — event three in the five-event 2.4 Meter Can Am Championship series. Unlike the previous two events, which each saw four competitors rack up first-place finishes in the 20-strong fleet, the leaderboard for the Edge Sailing Midwinters was dominated by two veteran racers: 2015 2.4mR North American Champion Bruce Millar, of Victoria, British Columbia, and 2018 2.4mR North American Champion Dee Smith of Annapolis, Maryland.
